Shhhh! My Cyndi's Secrets!

My Dear Friends,

“Sit up straight!” “Stand Tall!” Do you remember your teacher reminding you to check your posture in elementary school? Well, she or he was right to nudge you. Turns out that people who carry themselves with good posture come across more confident and certainly command more attention than those who slouch. So if you want to make it in today’s competitive world you need to start being aware of your posture. Don’t worry; we all need a little reminder. In fact, if you have followed My Cyndi’s Secrets for awhile you may recall me talking about this in the past. That’s because I want to help keep you in “line” – a straight line of good  posture.  Something that basic can easily be overlooked. Today I offer a good posture check as well as some tips that can help you appear more confident. Psssst! This also can’t hurt your chance of attracting a date if you are single. If you are married or in a relationship it can help to get your partner to take notice! 🙂

Psssssst! Come with me!

Posture Check – The Toilet Seat Cover!

Let’s start with a little posture check. It’s a great idea to invest in a full-length mirror. I’m surprised by how many people don’t have one at home. OK – I am not sexist but it sure does seem that a lot of men miss the boat by not displaying this great item in their home. It’s also bad enough when I stay in some fancy hotels that don’t even have one and I’m forced to stand on the toilet-seat cover to see what I look like before I go out the door. I say JUST FACE IT! – The mirror I mean! It is a valuable tool that can be used for constructive and positive head-to-toe posture inspections. What a great opportunity to really make friends with your own reflection.

To achieve good posture stand with your feet planted on the floor in a parallel position. Your chest should be out and your shoulders back. Not too far back, just far enough so that you slightly raise the chest. Be careful not to bring the shoulders up to the ears, which can cause tension. Keep them relaxed. Hold your stomach in and your buttocks tucked under. Visualize an imaginary string from the tip of your head down through the spine. Pretend that it is holding your body up. Now you are on the right track.

Top Tips to Achieve Good Posture

1)      Lengthen your neck to make it look longer. It will make you look taller.

2)      Keep the chin parallel to the floor. This will also help to eliminate the look of a double chin.

3)      Be sure to distribute your weight evenly. Point your toes forward. If you point them outward it can lead to improper balance.

4)      Be patient. You have probably had some poor posture habits for a long time. With a little practice you will get better.

5)      Use your shopping experiences as a place to do posture checks. Those windows work as perfect reflective mirrors. It also doesn’t cost anything. LOL!

Hey Cyndi thanks for the information! Since I have arthritic shoulders and also arthritis all down my spine I notice my posture tends to compensate for the stiffness & pains by slouching sometimes. This post is a good reminder to pay attention to my posture all during the day and to straighten up! As usual – U R the GR8test!!
